Before
commencement of any meaningful occasion, the African will pour libation occasioned with prayers to the
Gods of Africa. The question therefore
that presents itself is “Africa, a monolithic God continent or host to endless
Gods. Goddesses, Spirits both Evil and Good?”
Most
Africans by way of applying themselves to knowledge gleaned from several books
available today will readily agree that the continent may in all sincerity
never have a true history of its own.
The concept of victors writing the history for the victims maybe
extra-ordinarily powerful in the continent.
However, how will the African start to trace things?
An
average African might have heard how at a point in history many civilizations
boast several Gods or Deities but who have all brazed the concept of monolithic
God. Is it also in order to apply the
term “adopt” i.e. abandoning all other Gods by nations and continents around
Africa? If all the other Gods were
abandoned in the adoption of the ONE GOD concept where did all the other Gods
go? Or are they all being worshipped
secretly?
Africa
has diverse cultures as well as faiths at varying levels. The blog will not go into details about the
significance of the cultures inherent in the continent.
Christianity
or Islam, and in some sectors Buddhism, Hinduism are little known faiths imported
from everywhere else which thrives in the continent of Africa. Again the blog will not deal with all
these. There are questions left to God and so we will deal at a human level with that which the human mind can
comprehend.
I
have come to the knowledge of God by way of Christianity and have become very
well versed in the Holy Bible. It will
be for the reader to make up his or her mind as they journey through life
whether issues they encounter or brought to their attention is what their
respective expectations are. The
imported religions nonetheless, Africa spots its own numerous Gods, Deities,
Spirits of varying powers – personal Deities as well as Deities overseeing a
vast section of a community. The sad
fact that these Deities or Gods do not come with any Book means one has to
become a devotee before having an insight.
The axiom nothing is given free may apply hence by getting deep into the knowledge of a particular Deity may be tantamount to becoming a Devotee. If it is easy to reject a Deity once a devotee will feature somehow in this blog as per the axiom “THE TRUTH SETS
FREE”.
Although
all the imported Faiths teach One Almighty God, there seem huge confusion in
their ranks?
1.
Christianity
has Almighty God who do not have a competitor
2.
Islam
has Almighty God who do not have a competitor
3.
Buddhism/Hinduism
and all Faiths have One named Almighty God or may teach the individuality of
God.
4.
The
African does not seem to have Almighty God.
We would be exploring this concept and views are welcome.
Although
this blog will be leaning towards Africa, I will commence with the Christian
dogma of God i.e. Almighty God being One and yet TRINTY (Holy Trinity). The
concept of there being three (3) personalities in the Godhead being Father, Son
(Word) and Holy Spirit. Although these
three specific personalities have been mentioned God is not THREE but one. This is the closest the African will come to
comprehend the enormous numbers of Gods in Africa but only with the
question, are all the African Gods one God?
I must stress that all the Gods of Africa that has been believed has not
come with Books? For so you might have
been lead to believe. Did they come with
Books as the Almighty God with the imported Religions or Faiths?
In
2012, I wrote an Essay on the theme of the Holy Trinity and I will share with
those who will be visiting this blog to lead us into the face of Africa
relating to belief in God or Gods.
Other
issues that I will be highlighting will be whether in reality there were forms
of worship in the African continent prior to the arrival of the foreign
faiths? What happened to these and in
all sincerity must we search for them to show the African the way forward? The very important question could also be
what part the Holy Books, by way of Christianity – The Holy Bible play in establishing
a belief system that has to be unearthed to be believed? These will be views which the writer will be
espousing with strong tentacles in the Holy Bible. I will
be leaning partially on The Holy Bible for the simple reason that the writer
has come by way of the Christian Faith.
My name is Evangelist Samuel Anyetei, an Evangelist of the Most High
God. My belief in God transcends all
known Faiths and has its solid foundation in both folklore, The Bible, and most
of the Religions that believe in God’s Prophet Abraham as Father of Their Faith. This then will envelop Judaism, Christianity, and Islam and will extend to most religions.
I have not explored all religions and it has not been deemed necessary
to evaluate the belief in God based on all these.
I
am by this introduction inviting the children of the motherland to a journey
into what happened to Religion on the continent, Africa. The Essay will by no means condemn any of the
established Faiths and will simply enrich the African in his/her cultural
heritage as per the tenets of Religion.
